Citroen begins trial production of C5 Aircross SUV; sale expected to begin early 2021

The new SUV is expected to go on sale in just one fully loaded trim featuring an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electronic parking brake, dual-zone climate control, hands-free tailgate, split-LED headlamps and panoramic sunroof among others.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in several auto manufacturers suffering delays in their launch schedules. French manufacturer Citroen, which was on track to enter the Indian market earlier this year, saw the dates pushed to January-March 2021, thanks to the lockdown restriction.

Citroen has just announced that the company has started with the trial production of the C5 Aircross SUV, their entry car into India. This is taking place at Thiruvallur plant and is expected to go on sale in early 2021.

The new SUV is expected to go on sale in just one fully loaded trim featuring an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electronic parking brake, dual-zone climate control, hands-free tailgate, split-LED headlamps and panoramic sunroof among others.

It is expected to be powered by a 2-litre diesel engine that produces 180 PS and will be mated to an 8-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.

Various C5s were already spotted testing on India roads, but these were fully imported units. There are also reports that the C5 Aircross will only be assembled in India and not locally made.

Expect prices to start near the Rs 30 lakh mark.
