On Thursday, sub-divisional police officer, Margao, Dy SP Kiran Poduval, visited the containment zone and interacted with residents, as well as the talathi and the panchayat member, to understand their grievances.
Poduval told reporters that he took stock of the situation in the containment zone and inspected the deployment of the police force in the area. “I also interacted with the police personnel posted in the containment zone and motivated them to work with dedication,” Paduval said.
After 21 members of 7 families residing in a slum-like area in Arlem tested positive for Covid-19, South Goa collector Ajit Roy issued an order declaring certain parts of Arlem (ward 1) as containment zone and the rest of the ward as buffer zone. The order was issued under provisions contained in the Disaster Management Act 2005 and Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.
Meanwhile, the Gandhi market in Margao reopened on Thursday following a 3-day closure since Monday. The entire market complex was sanitised on Wednesday evening. The Gandhi Market Traders’ Association said that all the traders have been asked to keep a bottle of hand sanitiser at their unit, and to ensure social distancing by their customers.
