Covid-19 claims two more lives in Assam

GUWAHATI: Assam’s death toll climbed to 94 after two Covid-19 patients — a 57-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man —died on Thursday.
With the total number of confirmed cases in the state reaching 36,295 in the last 24 hours, the case fatality rate continues to be under 1% and is less than the national rate of 2.21% along with 23 other states and UTs.
Assam’s recovery rate is also among the highest in the country.
Union health secretary R Bhushan on Thursday informed media in New Delhi that 16 states have a recovery rate that is more than the national average of which Delhi has recovery rate of 88%, Ladakh 80%, Haryana 78%, Assam 76%, Telangana 74%, Tamil Nadu & Gujarat 73%, Rajasthan 70%, Madhya Pradesh 69% and Goa 68%.
Similarly, the country’s case fatality rate is 2.21 per cent, which is among the lowest in the world and 24 states and union territories have lesser fatality rate than that of the country, he added.
In the last 24 hours while the death toll climbed to 92, 1348 new cases were reported and 1214 patients were discharged from various hospitals after recovery. Till Thursday, there are now 8,368 active cases with these patients admitted in Covid care centres and hospitals. The cumulative confirmed cases in the state so far is 36,295 while the cumulative recovered figure is 27,832.
