File photoNEW DELHI: CPM has slammed the Modi government for “deliberately” choosing August 5 as the date for bhoomi pujan for the Ram temple since it coincides with the one year anniversary of the “demolition” of Jammu and Kashmir.
An editorial in its mouthpiece People’s Democracy said building a Ram temple and abrogating Article 370 were “core agendas of Hindutva forces”, and the choice of August 5 — one year to the day when Parliament revoked J&K’s special status and bifurcated it into two Union Territories — was significant.
“The prime minister is going to lay the first brick in the foundation ceremony of a religious place of worship, thereby violating the secular principle of the state. Thanks to the judgment of the Supreme Court based on dubious grounds, building of the temple in Ayodhya has been legitimised,” the editorial said.
It also pointed to the apex court’s contrasting positions when it held the demolition of the mosque “as a serious violation of law” but sanctioned the temple and “gave primacy to the faith of the majority”.
“The same Supreme Court has not found the time to give a verdict on the constitutional amendment and legislation which illegally tampered with Article 370 and dismantled a state. This is another instance of judicial evasion,” the editorial said.
