Kavi Nagar robbers took orders from ‘Sir’ on phone

Ghaziabad: Further investigation into the armed robbery in a house in upscale Kavi Nagar revealed that at least eight men were part of the crime and not six as earlier thought. Police said while six accused entered the house, two others stayed downstairs and kept watch on the three gates of the house.
Police have also found some CCTV footage where robbers in three groups are seen fleeing the crime spot. Some of the gang members fled in a car while others escaped on two motorcycles.
Ghaziabad SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said, “As some of the CCTV cameras were not functioning and image quality of the others were not good, our teams are yet to trace the identity of the accused.”
The incident had taken place early on Tuesday when robbers entered the house of one Bhopal Sharma, 75, who lives with his wife, daughter and grandchildren.
The armed men had allegedly kept an eight-month-old baby at knifepoint during the entire ordeal that started at 1.30am and continued till 4am.
The robbers, wearing masks and handkerchiefs, cut the society gate to enter the house. One of them climbed the wall while the others cut one of the three gates of the house and barged inside through the kitchen window.
While investigating the point mentioned by Sharma that the accused were taking instructions from somebody while committing the crime, police said that investigation also revealed the same.
A senior officer in the crime branch said that members of the family had said that one of the accused who seemed the leader of the gang was on the phone throughout. “We were told that that the accused was using wireless earphones and conversing with someone else. He mostly responded with a ‘yes Sir’ and a ‘no Sir.’ We are also investigation on similar line,” the officer said.
Sharma, who is a farmer, told police that he suspects his deceased son’s brother-in-law Deepak to be behind the crime. Following which, a case was registered against him under section 395 (dacoity) and 397 (robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code.
