A Ravi Varma paintingCHENNAI: Patrick Connors, a lecturer at Yale University Art Gallery, Philadelphia Museum of Art and Drexel School of Medicine, will speak on "Raja Ravi Varma: A poet of aesthetic and cultural confluence" at 7pm on August 1.
Organised by the Raja Ravi Varma Heritage Foundation, the talk will focus on Ravi Varma's use of western pictorial structures that enabled him to achieve his aesthetic ends.
There will also be a live session with Connors between 8 pm and 8 30pm.
Born on April 29, 1848 in Kilimanoor (in Kerala), Ravi Varma was a painter whose works not only put India on the map but also placed him on the pedestal with other great artists.
