Representative imageMOHALI: The Mohali police have arrested two Shahkot residents, both husband and wife, for duping Mohali residents of crores on the pretext of sending them abroad.
Both the accused have been identified as Sheetal Singh and Navjot Kaur, residents of Shahkot.
According to the police officials, the duo was operating a firm by the name ‘Child Abroad’ here in Phase XI from the past six years. The police claimed that eight cases were registered against them at Phase XI police station since 2014 of commiting fraud of around Rs 1crore.
“No recent complaint has been registered, but a total of eight cases were there against them. We have nabbed them from Jalandhar after we received a tip-off,” said sub-inspector Jagdeep Singh Brar, SHO, Phase XI.
The accused were produced before a local court and are in police remand for two days.
A case under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the couple at the Phase XI police station.
