Expect rainy weekend in Mumbai after light rain on Wednesday

MUMBAI: Wednesday was dry with only light rains recorded a day after significant rain was received in many pockets of the city on Tuesday. In nine hours ending 5.30pm on Wednesday, the IMD's Colaba observatory reported 0.2 mm of rain and Santacruz observatory recorded 3.3 mm.
However the wet spell is likely to be back. The Met department has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and around for the coming weekend. From July 31 to August 2, heavy rain can be expected at isolated places in these areas.
KS Hosalikar, deputy director-general (western region), IMD, said that in the 24 hours till 8.30am on Wednesday, Mumbai and around reported isolated heavy rain. "However, the impact was more towards south Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. "The satelite picture indicates cloudy weather over the coast. August is likely to show an enhancement in rain activity," he said.
