CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported the highest single-day Covid-19
fatality. The state reported 97 deaths and 5,864 fresh cases.
The
death toll rose to 3,838 while the total number of active cases reached 57,962. The state’s total tally is now 2,39,978.
As many as 5,295 patients were discharged on Thursday. It takes the total number of discharged patients to 1,78,178.
Chennai continued to be the hotspot as it accounted for 1,175 of the fresh cases which took its total confirmed cases to 98,767. As many as 12,785 people are under treatment in the city.
Chennai’s three neighbouring districts recorded a total of 854 cases. They include 354 cases in Chengalpet, 175 in Kancheepuram and 325 in Tiruvallur.
Coimbatore reported 303 cases and seven other districts reported more than 200 cases. It includes Tirunelveli 277, Tuticorin 220, Virudhunagar 244, Theni 261, Ranipet 272, Madurai 220 and Kanyakumari 248.
Among those who tested positive, two were passengers who returned from abroad in flights. Other passengers who tested positive are: 26 people who returned from other states in domestic flights and 25 others who returned from other states by road.
