Illustration used for representational purposeVARANASI: Two inmates fled the temporary jail in Chunar area of Mirzapur district after breaking one of it's windows early on Thursday. On July 15 similar incident had taken place in Sonbhadra.
SP Mirzapur Dharmvir Singh said that apart from lodging a fresh FIR, several teams are engaged to trace and nab them. A cash reward of Rs 25,000 has also been announced on each absconder.
According to the police, Satish Kumar Shukla (26) of Riva, Madhya Pradesh and Ashish Bind (26) of Manda in Prayagraj, were arrested on July 17 in a case of motorcycle lifting and many stolen motorcycles were recovered from their possession. After producing them before the court, they were lodged in a temporary jail created at Government Polytechnic College in Chunar area in view of the Covid-19 protocol.
Mirzapur district jail superintendent Anil Kumar Rai, said that around 2.30am on Thursday, the prison guards found the window of a room broken when he alarmed the senior officials. Shukla and Bind were missing during the counting of the inmates. Taking note of it, Rai along with SDM Chunar and additional SP (Naxal) inspected the temporary jail.
The cops immediately ensured sealing of district borders and carried out a massive checking drive. Police said that Shukla has tattoos on many parts of the body, including depiction of `Mard’ on his chest while Bind has a cut mark on his ear. SP Mirzapur said that teams of police were conducting raids at all possible hideouts of the absconders to ensure their early arrest.
Earlier, on July 15, an accused in a case of Pocso Act- Shivnath Yadav (28), who was arrested on July 9, Sazid Ali alias Teni and Sandeep Sharma, who were arrested on July 12 in a case lodged under sections of Arms Act, had fled from a room of temporary jail of Robertsganj area in Sonbhadra district, although the cops succeeded in arresting them the same day.
