AHMEDABAD: The Congress opposition in the AMC said that the ruling party was hiding the true number of Covid cases and deaths and have hence stopped giving out details about the cases. The Congress said the BJP was not serious about handling the outbreak and allowed crowds to gather for its various functions.
The general body meeting of the AMC, for the second consecutive month, was held virtually.
Leader of the opposition in the AMC, Dinesh Sharma, said that in early February the BJP had inaugurated the renovated Happy Street at Law Garden and later that month gathered lakhs of people including 10,000 NRIs for the ‘Namaste Trump’ programme. “These two functions led to the outbreak of Covid in the city, which is now among the top three in the country in cases.”
Sharma further said that the first Covid case was an NRI woman, reported on March 17, after which the outbreak occurred in the city. Sharma said the virus entered the city through these two programmes.
