Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Salman Khurshid today said the organisers of the ground-breaking ceremony of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya should have invited leaders from all major national political parties for the ceremony.

Salman Khurshid said the dispute over the Babari Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi land title issue is over after the Supreme Court delivered its verdict last year.

"Everyone should perform the bhoomi poojan together," he said.

Meanwhile, responding to Salman Khurshid's statement, AMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, "Let us give where credit is due. After all it was Rajiv Gandhi who reopened the locks of Babri Masjid and it was PV Narasimha Rao who oversaw its demolition (of Babri Masjid) as Prime Minister. Congress was hands in glove with Sangh Parivar in this movement to destroy the (Babri) masjid."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the ground-breaking ceremony of the Ram Mandir on August 5. Besides him, BJP veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi will also be joining the ceremony, among other leaders.

LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi were among the BJP leaders who were at the frontline of the Ram Janmabhoomi agitation in the 1990s. Leaders like Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiyar are also likely to be invited for the ceremony. Currently, these BJP leaders are facing a trial in the Babri Masjid demolition case.Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Maharashtra Chief Minister Udhav Thackeray and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar are also on the list of invitees.

The Supreme Court in November last year ruled in favour of the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site where the Babri Masjid once stood. The Babri Masjid was demolished in December 1992 by "kar sevaks" who claimed that the mosque in Ayodhya was built on the site of an ancient Ram temple.
