The Maharashtra government announced extension of the general lockdown until July 31 with an aim to contain the Covid-19 surge. The notification issued by the state government has also restricted inter-district travel between municipal corporations within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to that for office purposes and essential activities like medical reasons.

*A rapid blood test conducted by the BMC on almost 7,000 people in three civic wards in the city found 57% of the people tested in slum pockets had antibodies to Covid-19 as against 16% in non-slum pockets.
*Public health minister Rajesh Tope has said Pune and MMR, which are adding the largest number of cases, should report a decline over the next 8-10 days as they approach a peak.
*The city on Tuesday logged 700 new cases, its lowest in 77 days. BMC commissioner IS Chahal had earlier said it was the lowest daily addition in 100 days, but later corrected it. In another positive sign for the city, active cases dropped below 20,000 for the first time since May 29.
*The number of coronavirus tests carried out in Maharashtra will cross two million on Wednesday—accounting for 11% of the tests in the country. The state has carried out over 15,607 tests per million population.
