The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday said that the COVID-19 fatality rate in the state is 1.6 per cent.
"So far, the state has recorded 3,659 deaths. The fatality rate in the state at 1.6%," said Palaniswami during a virtual meeting with the district collectors of state.
The chief minister held the meeting to discuss the COVID-19 situation in Tamil Nadu with the senior administrative officers.
Meanwhile, the data released by the Greater Chennai Corporation showed the overall average growth rate of new cases for the seven days till Wednesday was at 0.3 per cent. Among the 15 zones of the city, as many as eight zones, including Sholinganallur, valasaravakkam, Tiruvottiyur, Madhavaram have registered a positive growth rate of new cases.
Kodambakkam zone has the most number of corona positive patients seeking treatment and Royapuram zone, which is worst-hit among the 15 zones, has a higher number of recovered persons than other zones.
In Royapuram, as many as 9,974 persons have recovered, which is a 90% recovery rate.
The city reported a total of 96,438 positive cases, of which 81,530 patients have recovered and were sent home. As many as 12,852 cases are under treatment. Also, a grim total of 2,056 deaths have been reported in the city.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Tamil Nadu currently has 57,073 active COVID-19 cases, while 1,66,956 are cured of the viral infection in the state and 3,659 have also lost their life to COVID-19.
