Ramadoss urges Tamil Nadu govt to ban online gambling

CHENNAI: PMK leader S Ramadoss on Wednesday expressed disappointment over the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government’s inaction in banning online gambling despite the high court’s direction.
Citing the suicide of a Chennai youth who was addicted to online gambling and who lost several thousands of rupees, Ramadoss stated that the suicide rate of youngsters addicted to gambling was on the rise.
He added that PMK had been requesting a ban on online gambling for a long time now.
He also applauded the Telangana government for banning online gambling and said, “The TN government should take efforts to ban on gambling. The Centre government should also explore the possibility of enacting a law against online gambling.”
Ramadoss insisted the AIADMK government implement former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s 13-point action plan to ensure safety and prevent incidents of sexual harassment against women and children.
On the appointment of vice-chancellors to the state universities, he said there were no VCs belonging to the vanniyar community in any of the 21 universities in the state in the last five years.
Mounting pressure on the TN government when it formed a Madras University VC search panel, Ramadoss took to social media to highlight the lack of representation from his community. He tweeted, “Is there no deserving candidate from the vanniyar community in the state. Is this social justice? When this injustice will come to an end?”
