Varanasi: Wooden rakhis for PM Narendra Modi, soldiers at Galwan valley

VARANASI: The parliamentary office of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday received a unique gift packet from the women artisans of traditional GI (Geographical Indication) tagged craft of Varanasi wooden lacquerware and toys.
The packet contained colourful wooden rakhis meant for the PM and the braveheart soldiers at Galwan valley on Indo-China boarder for the forthcoming festival of Rakshabandhan. These women including Shalini, Vandana, Reeta, Pushpa and Sita accompanied by master craftsman Rameshwar Singh handed over the packet to the office in-charge Shiv Sharan Pathak. They also sent a letter to the PM, requesting him to ensure that the rakhis reach the soldiers at Galwan valley. “Inspired by the PM’s mantra of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, we made the wooden rakhi this year for the first time under the guidance of the national merit awardee Rameshwar Singh,” said Shalini adding.
She added, “It is our humble respect and love for the PM and the soldiers fighting for our safety and security.”
She said that during the pandemic period, the women artisans of Varanasi got employment opportunity by preparing about 50,000 pieces of GI-tagged wooden rakhis.
