India’s coronavirus caseload is the third highest in the world after the US (44.3 lakh) and Brazil (24.4 lakh). Russia has the fourth largest count of cases at 8.2 lakh, as per the Worldometers.info website.
With 5,09,447 active cases, India's Covid tally has increased to 1,531,669 cases. As many as 9,88,029 have been discharged from the hospitals, while 34,193 have died due the infection.

City doctors are being flooded with calls from anxious flu patients who fear they could be suffering from Covid-19. The similarity of Covid symptoms with that of seasonal cough-and-cold has left hundreds of Kolkatans confused and worried. While they are scurrying for medical advice and are even being scared into quarantine, a section of doctors believe the fright is unfounded in most cases, since these are more likely to be an ordinary bout of non-Covid viral attack, common at this time of the year. They, however, are advising caution, regular screening and Covid testing for those with breathing issues.

US coronavirus deaths rise by nearly 1,300 for first time since May
US deaths from the novel coronavirus rose by nearly 1,300 on Tuesday, the biggest one-day increase since May, according to a Reuters tally. California, Florida and Texas, the three most-populous states, reported one-day record spikes in deaths on Tuesday, together accounting for 584 of the 1,292 new deaths. Arkansas, Montana and Oregon also had one-day record increases in Covid-19 fatalities.
Global airlines less hopeful on Covid-19 recovery
Global airlines cut their coronavirus recovery forecast on Tuesday, saying it would take until 2024 - a year longer than previously expected - for passenger traffic to return to pre-crisis levels.In an update on the pandemic's crippling impact on air travel, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) cited slow virus containment in the United States and developing countries, and a weaker outlook for corporate travel.
China battles virus outbreak in Xinjiang region
China reported more than 100 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus on Wednesday as the country continues to battle an outbreak in Xinjiang. The northwestern region accounted for 89 of the new cases, with another eight in the northeastern province of Liaoning and one in Beijing.

MP minister Silawat, wife test positive for Covid
Madhya Pradesh minister Tulsi Silawat and his wife have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Despite showing no symptoms of the infection, Silawat said he underwent coronavirus test on the instruction of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Germany's confirmed coronavirus cases rise by 684 to 206,926 - RKI
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 684 to 206,926, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed today. The reported death toll rose by six to 9,128, the tally showed.

57% of Mumbai slumdwellers have Covid antibodies: Sero survey
A rapid blood test conducted by the BMC on almost 7,000 people in three civic wards in the city found 57% of the people tested in slum pockets had antibodies to Covid-19 as against 16% in non-slum pockets. The SARS-CoV2 sero-prevalence study—covering the wards R North (Dahisar), M West (Chembur) and F North (Sion, GTB Nagar and Matunga)—was done by the BMC along with Niti Ayog and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).

Moderna Inc on Tuesday said its experimental Covid-19 vaccine induced a robust immune response and protected against infection in a study on monkeys. The vaccine, MRNA-1273, given to non-human primates protected against infection in the lungs and nose, and prevented pulmonary disease in all animals, the company said in a news release. Results of the study in rhesus macaque monkeys were published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
