- 240 new deaths have been recorded, bringing the total to 7 497.
- Of the 240 deaths, 156 were from Gauteng.
- This comes as the country nears 500 000 cases.
As of Wednesday, 240 new deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, taking the toll in the country to 7 497.
Of the 240 new deaths, 34 were in the Eastern Cape, 156 in Gauteng, 27 in KwaZulu-Natal and 23 in the Western Cape.
This as the country recorded 471 123 cases, with Gauteng sitting at 168 369, followed by the Western Cape on 93 737 and Eastern Cape on 75 872.

In addition, the number of recoveries currently sits at 297 967, translating to a recovery rate of 63%.
To date, 2 873 163 tests have been conducted of which 57% are in the private sector, while 43% are in the public sector.
