FALL RIVER -- In Fall River on Tuesday, state police, Lowell police, and Fall River police captured the man wanted for the June murder of a woman in Lowell.

The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section added Xavier DeJesus, 20, to its Most Wanted List earlier this month.

On Monday state police developed information that DeJesus may be in the Fall River area, state police said in a press release Tuesday.

After following up on that information, about 1 p.m. Tuesday police approached 132 Stevens St. in Fall River, where DeJesus was believed to be hiding.

As state troopers and police fficers approached, DeJesus attempted to run out the back door, but he then observed police in the rear of the house and ran back inside the residence. Troopers and officers found DeJesus hiding in the basement and took him into custody. DeJesus was then returned to Middlesex County to be held pending his arraignment in Lowell District Court tomorrow.

DeJesus is wanted for the the June 23 fatal shooting of Deija Mendez, 23, of Boston, outside a residence on Coral Street in Lowell while she was seated in a vehicle. Mendez was pronounced dead on the scene.

The homicide case against DeJesus is being prosecuted by the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

DeJesus was the second state police Most Wanted fugitive captured Tuesday. Around midday Maine State Police and US Marshals captured Derell Guy, 34, after state police developed information that Guy had fled to central Maine. Guy is wanted for the Jan. 4 shooting homicide of 25-year-old Bryan Omar Mendez in Lynn.
