The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Education (MSBSHE) declared the state SSC results on Wednesday, July 29. This year’s SSC (class 10) results has been the state board’s best performance in six years. It came as a pleasant surprise to all students, after 2019 results had left many disappointed owing to dip by over 12 percent. The pass percentage this year was 95.30 percent, a leap from last year’s 77.10 percent. The Mumbai division’s passing result was even higher than the state average. Mumbai recorded a pass percentage of 97.62 percent, a 20.58 percent jump from last year’s 77.04 percent.

In the state, 83262 students scored above 90 percent, whereas in Mumbai, above 90 percent was secured by 14756 students. 1714 schools in Mumbai saw 100 percent passing results whereas last year the count was only 331 schools. BMC school students achieved a record breaking 93.25 percent passing result among all its schools. A total of 13637 BMC school students appeared for the exam, of which 12716 students passed the exam.
Across nine divisions – Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik, Latur and Konkan – Konkan had the highest pass percentage (98.77), followed by Kolhapur (97.64) and Pune (97.34). Mumbai scored the fourth (96.72) whereas Aurangabad had the least pass percent (92).
Of the 1575103 students who appeared for the board exams this year, 1501105 students cleared the exam. While the pass percentage among girl students (96.91) was 3.01 percent more compared to boys (93.90).

A total of 17,65,898 (9,75,894 boys, 7,89,898 girls) candidates had registered for the SSC exams this year which were held from March 3-23. The last exam paper was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the marks for that were calculated as per average of other subjects.
For the SSC exams held in March this year, 20 mark internal exams were reintroduced for all papers after they had been done away with in 2019 March exam. The revised curriculum for this year’s exam comprised of 20 mark oral exams for languages, 20 mark internal exams for social sciences, and 20 mark practical exams for science and technology subject.
Speaking to the Indian Express, chairman of Maharashtra State Board Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Shakuntala Kale said, “It was a challenge assessing the papers amid lockdown. But all officers put in more number of hours to ensure things get completed on time. This year, the board reached out to the teachers by way of collecting answersheets from them, even in read zones, with all safety measures.”
