Two more deaths take Assam's toll to 88

GUWAHATI: Two more Covid-19 patients - a 70-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man - succumbed to the virus at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), pushung the state's toll to 88. On the other hand, an 86-year-old man with co-morbidities won his battle against the virus at MMCH and walked out of hospital on Tuesday after 12 days.
Assam's mortality rate continues to remain under 1%, hovering around 0.26%.
Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "86 year old, from Japorigog, Guwahati, COVID positive with comorbidities spent 12 days in ICU of MMCH. Finally, he defeated coronavirus and happily went home today after discharged from the hospital."
In the last 24 hours, 1,348 fresh cases were reported in the state, while 1362 patients have also recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals.
The cumulative confirmed positive cases in the state till Monday stood at 33,576 of which 25,402 have been discharged. With the two fatalities and one discharge reported till Tuesday evening, there are now 8,082 active cases.
Meanwhile, the state on Tuesday completed eight lakh cumulative tests for Covid-19. Sarma tweeted, "We started our journey with the first test for COVID 19 on 7th February. And today we have accomplished eight lacs test."
