On the occasion of the International Tiger's Day, Chhatbir Zoo tiger cubs got their names on Wednesday. The names of cubs were chosen and approved by Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh in an online ceremony here today.
Disclosing this here this afternoon, a spokesperson said that name of the female cub has been chosen as Dilnoor while two male cubs have been named as Amar and Arjun.
The name of female cub, as per Central Zoo Authority New Delhi guidelines, must begin with first letter of mother name Diya, the spokesperson added. The name of male cub should start similarly with first letter of Father's name Aman.
Earlier, the CM tweeted after approving names during the Naamkaran Ceremony, which read, Tiger is the pride of our country & we are home to over 70% of the world's tiger population. The Chhatbir Zoo, one of the largest zoos in India, is spread over 505 acres of forest area in Mohali and is home to around 1500 animals/birds including 5 adult tigers and 3 new born cubs.
To add another feather in cap, Tigress Diya of Chhatbir Zoo had delivered three cubs in November last year, the spokesperson further added.
