PATIALA: One person died while another was injured when a speeding luxury car hit three cyclists in Punjab's Patiala town on Wednesday morning.
The accident took place at Patiala–Sangrur bypass near Passiana village when a Creta car hit two cyclists in the morning, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Gurvinder Singh, 51, of Patiala city. The police said Gurvinder used to run a spare parts shop in Patiala. The police have arrested and identified the accused as Harpreet Singh of Panjokhra, Ambala in Haryana. The police refused to divulge any more details about the accused including his profession. The police added that the accused was booked under sections of negligence causing death and rash driving.
Station house officer of Passiana police station Jaspreet Singh said, “Gurvinder died while Jaspreet Singh, 34, was admitted to Amar Hospital after being hit by the speeding car. The third cyclist Yashpreet Singh managed to rush both of them to the hospital. We have arrested the accused under 279, 337, 427 and 304A of the IPC."
