THANE: The Covid-19 patients admitted at the Global hub hospital, Saket are inconvenienced as even after a month of inauguration the civic authorities have still not been able to provide adequate staff and only 50 per cent of the premises is functional, stated activists.
It’s been over a month since the hospital has been inaugurated but it still is not only facing staff crunch for administrative posts but needs many doctors there too. The civic authorities stated that so far they have given around 10 advertisements regarding the vacancies but the response is low.
“We currently have a total staff of 380 at the hospital out of which there are 68 doctors and we merely need 20 more. Mainly there is a requirement of intensivist as we have five and need 15 more,” said Sandeep Malvi, deputy municipal commissioner.
The authorities confirmed that due to the lack of doctors currently out of the 76 ICU beds only 30 are functional, along with 10 dialysis beds and 500 oxygen beds.
The local politicians and activists have blamed the civic administration for their being irresponsible and not providing basic medical facilities to the citizens at a time when the Covid-19 patient numbers are rising.
“The hospital is of 1024 beds and even after a month only 50 per cent of it is functional. Patients call us complaining that they are not even checked by doctors for two days and fear their condition would get worse. There are less doctors probably because they fear for their safety as the authorities do not even provide safety gears like masks or gloves to even the staff working at their dispensaries,” said Manohar Dumbre, BJP corporator.
