GURUGRAM: Over two dozen illegal colonies on the outskirts of the city may get electricity connections if the enforcement wing of the department of town and country planning fails to act against them by this month’s end.
Power discom Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) had alerted the district town planner (DTP) about 25 illegal colonies in Bhondsi, Sehjawas, Nayagaon, Rithoj and Badhshapur earlier this month. It had highlighted that several houses have come up in these colonies and people are consuming electricity through illegal connections, causing losses to the discom.
“It is requested to take suitable action in a month’s time. After that, the department will take action to release metered electronic connections to these consumers so that it is able to realise its dues for the power consumed,” DHBVN had said in its letter, sent on July 1.
DTP RS Batth claimed to have taken action against most of the colonies. Batth, however, didn’t elaborate on how many of the 25 colonies listed by DHBVN have been demolished and how many are still awaiting action.
A DHBVN official clarified that giving electricity connections in no way gives any authenticity to such structures and colonies. Connections will be given only to minimise losses of the discom. “A detailed affidavit as well as indemnity bond will be taken from all such consumers clearly stating that they shall be liable for any legal action regarding the nature of their premises by government agencies,” he said.
