Also, Ezhuva community will be issued a Backward Class community certificate throughout the state.
“Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami presented the government orders to the community representatives in the Secretariat on Monday,” said an official release.
This follows recommendations of a committee set up by the state government to consider the representations of the committee.
The ezhuva community in Kanyakumari district and Shencottah taluk of Tirunelveli district was notified as BC in in 2008. However, it was brought to the notice of the government that members of the community live in all districts as per a 1983 survey by the Tamil Nadu Second Backward Classes Commission.
The Union government gazetted in 2001 the inclusion of the thiyya community on the central list of OBCs in Tamil Nadu based on the recommendation of National Commission for Backward Classes.
