Telangana contributes 30% to 40% of domestic pharma production: KT Rama Rao

HYDERABAD: Telangana industries minister KT Rama Rao said Hyderabad pharma industry contributes up to 30 to 40 per cent of domestic pharma production. He said Hyderabad based Bharath Biotech developed the first indigenous vaccine for Covid-19, which is currently under clinical trials.
The IT and Industries minister KTR participated in an online session hosted by the World Economic Forum on the topic ‘Harnessing the Potential of Telangana’s Pharmaceutical Sector in the Global Health Ecosystem’. During the session, KTR highlighted the life sciences ecosystem of Hyderabad. He also stated that the post-Covid-19 world would provide great opportunities for the pharma and life sciences sector in Telangana. He said major pharma companies like Novartis have also made Hyderabad one of their bases.
KTR said that the Genome Valley, Medical Devices Park, and Hyderabad Pharma City have transformed the city into a global pharma destination for investors. He said that the government was planning to attract more investments in the pharma and life sciences sector in Telangana.
Minister KTR stated that the government was ready to work with the industry towards utilising every opportunity to not only produce vaccines but also to explore opportunities in digital drug discovery.
He also mentioned various innovative programs taken up by the Telangana government along with the World Economic Forum. He highlighted that blood and vital medicals are being supplied via drones under ‘Medicine from the Sky’ program.
