NEW DELHI:
PM Modi launched three high-throughput labs in Noida, Kolkata and Mumbai on Monday for testing of samples to detect Covid-19. The facilities, which will enable testing of over 10,000 samples a day and reduce turnaround time and exposure of lab personnel to infectious clinical material, will not remain restricted to testing for Covid-19 but will be expanded for testing of many other diseases including
Hepatitis B and C, HIV and dengue in future, Modi said.
He also said India was now the second largest manufacturer of
PPE kits in the world. India has progressed from not having even a single PPE kit manufacturer six months ago to having more than 1,200 manufacturers now, who are producing more than 5 lakh kits daily, Modi said. Annual production capacity of ventilators has also become 3 lakh.
