GREATER NOIDA: From August 1, all 60 MS and MD students at Sharda University’s School of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSR), also known as Sharda Medical College, will be placed in Covid duty at Sharda hospital, an L3 Covid facility. With this, the hospital’s strength of 120 doctors on Covid duty will increase to 180.
“Sixty 60 MS and MD students are undergoing training and orientation under Dr Ashutosh Niranjan, medical superintendent (clinical), and Dr Manisha Jindal (administration), under the guidance of Dr PK Gupta, the chancellor of Sharda University,” said Dr Ajit Kumar, joint registrar and spokesperson of Sharda University and SMSR.
Of the 60 doctors, 11 are for general surgery and 10 for community medicine, which are both crucial in Covid treatment, Dr Kumar added. Others include seven for radiology, six each for anaesthesia, orthopaedic and paediatric and two each for forensic medicine, physiology, microbiology, anatomy and others.
Twelve of the total 72 seats approved for the college have also been filled and the allotment process is underway. Of these, 13 allotments are non-clinical, including MD in pathology, biochemistry, microbiology and anatomy. They will be placed in Covid-related duties such as RT-PCR testing, Covid control room and the Covid war room. The remaining 59 are clinical experts, including MS and MD, who will be placed directly on duty in Covid wards, including ICU.
A doctor on Covid duty is placed in one-week quarantine at Sharda hospital as against the state government’s usual two-day one. After the quarantine, the doctors are placed in non-Covid wards from about two weeks to a month and then back on Covid duty. “This is the roster we follow for all doctors at the hospital,” said Dr Kumar.
