New Delhi: The number of coronavirus cases in India touched 14.83 lakh after a spike of 47,703 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said this morning, adding that 654 COVID-19 patients died since yesterday, taking the total number of Covid-linked deaths to 33,425. More than 9.5 lakh patients have recovered so far and the country's recovery rate stood at 64.23 per cent this morning. The positivity rate - percentage of patients who have tested positive for coronavirus - stood at 9.03 per cent.
With 5,324 fresh cases, Karnataka crossed the grim milestone of one lakh COVID-19 cases on Monday. The total number of cases now stands at 1,01,465. The coronavirus death tally in the State is now closer to the 2,000-mark (1,953 deaths), according tothe bulletin issued by the state government. Maharashtra has reported 3,75,799 virus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 5,15,472 samples were tested for coronavirus on Sunday and overall 1,68,06,803 samples have been tested so far.

Coronavirus news: COVID-19 Victim's Body Left Unattended At Home For Over 14 Hours In KolkataThe body of COVID-19 patient in Kolkata lay unattended at his residence for over 14 hours as neighbours and the local councillor failed to respond to repeated calls for help, the family has alleged.
The man, who was in his mid 60s, died around midnight on Sunday, the family members - three of whom have also tested positive for the deadly virus - said.
"My elder brother, his wife, daughter and sister-in-law had tested positive for the disease. Dada (brother) died around 11:55 PM on Sunday. Since then we had tried contacting Councillor Ashoka Mondal several times, but all calls went unanswered. We also contacted the state health department, but no one helped," the man's brother said.
Even their neighbours did not come to help the family, PTI reported.
