COVID-19 India Updates: The country's coronavirus tally stood at 14,83,156 this morning.

The number of coronavirus cases in India touched 14.83 lakh after a spike of 47,703 fresh infections in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said this morning, adding that 654 COVID-19 patients died since yesterday, taking the total number of Covid-linked deaths to 33,425. More than 9.5 lakh patients have recovered so far and the country's recovery rate stood at 64.23 per cent this morning. The positivity rate - percentage of patients who have tested positive for coronavirus - stood at 9.03 per cent.

With 5,324 fresh cases, Karnataka crossed the grim milestone of one lakh COVID-19 cases on Monday. The total number of cases now stands at 1,01,465. The coronavirus death tally in the State is now closer to the 2,000-mark (1,953 deaths), according tothe bulletin issued by the state government.  Maharashtra has reported 3,75,799 virus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 5,15,472 samples were tested for coronavirus on Sunday and overall 1,68,06,803 samples have been tested so far.

Coronavirus news: 3,044 new COVID-19 cases found in Pune district; 38 more die
Pune district reported 3,044 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its count to 72,782 on Monday, a health department official said.

He said the death count rose to 1,737 with 38 more patients dying to the infection in the western Maharashtra district.

Also, 896 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: Assam reports 1,348 new COVID-19 cases, seven more deaths
Seven more COVID-19 patients died in Assam on Monday, taking the count to 86, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The state also reported 1,348 new cases, following which the tally climbed to 33,567, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: UP rapidly ramping up COVID-19 tests -- from 72 in a day to over 1 lakh, Yogi Adityanath
More than one lakh COVID-19 tests were done in Uttar Pradesh on July 26 as against just 72 on March 23, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Monday after the launch of a high-tech testing facility in Noida.

He said UP accounted for six per cent of the 6,000 tests conducted daily across the country in April and by July that figure rose to 15 per cent and his government aims to take that to 20 per cent soon, PTI reported.

Coronavirus news: COVID-19 Victim's Body Left Unattended At Home For Over 14 Hours In Kolkata
The body of COVID-19 patient in Kolkata lay unattended at his residence for over 14 hours as neighbours and the local councillor failed to respond to repeated calls for help, the family has alleged.

The man, who was in his mid 60s, died around midnight on Sunday, the family members - three of whom have also tested positive for the deadly virus - said.

"My elder brother, his wife, daughter and sister-in-law had tested positive for the disease. Dada (brother) died around 11:55 PM on Sunday. Since then we had tried contacting Councillor Ashoka Mondal several times, but all calls went unanswered. We also contacted the state health department, but no one helped," the man's brother said.

Even their neighbours did not come to help the family, PTI reported.
