GUWAHATI:
Congress leaders, led by former chief minister Tarun Gogoi, breached Covid-19 protocols on Monday while leading a protest march to the Raj Bhavan. The members of the Grand Old Party were agitating against the BJP for allegedly trying to topple opposition governments across the country.
However, police stopped the march just when it was about start off from the

coronavirus. Over 100 Congress workers had gathered at the protest site despite being denied permission to take out a rally. Police and paramilitary personnel barricaded the area where the Congress members had gathered in the morning. “It was a breach of the Covid rules. Gathering of more than five persons can not be allowed in such a situation,” a senior police official said.
Gogoi alleged that the Covid protocols are being flouted by BJP leaders themselves, but when it comes to the Congress, the police has been ruthless. “Today, democracy is in danger. Rajasthan is the burning example. The governor’s house is being misused. The governor of a state must convene the state assembly session as per the advice of the state cabinet. However, in Rajasthan, he is delaying it by giving one excuse after another,” he added.
Meanwhile, the BJP rubbished all allegations of the Congress. In a statement, Assam BJP spokesperson Hemanta Kalita said, “Many Congress leaders are quitting the Congress after they got frustrated at family-centric politics and rampant corruption in the party. Dragging the BJP into their internal politics in Rajasthan and other states is nothing but a political trick.”
