Coronavirus LIVE updates: A Sero survey conducted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on 6,936 people from three municipal wards showed that 57 percent of those surveyed in slums had seroprevalence, while in non-slums the number dropped to 16 percent.
Maharashtra recorded a total of 7,717 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the state's tally to 3,91,440. The death toll rose to 14,165 with 282 new deaths.
India saw a single-day spike of 47,704 cases and 654 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the Covid-19 tally to 14,83,157, including 4,96,988 active cases. The death toll has climbed to 33,425 while 9,52,744 patients have been cured or discharged, the Health Ministry said today. Meanwhile, as the global death toll from the coronavirus pandemic crossed the 6,50,000-mark, Moderna Inc and Pfizer Inc commenced two 30,000-subject trials of Covid-19 vaccines that could make way for clearance and use by the year-end, the companies said in a statement on Monday.

◕ West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced the extension of partial lockdown in state till August 31. "We are extending the partial lockdown in the state, which was in force till July 31, till August 31," she said. However, making an exemption, the Bengal government has said that there will be no lockdown in the state on August 1, on the occasion of Bakr Eid.
◕ Assam Assembly's Deputy Speaker Aminul Haque Laskar tested positive for COVID-19, the sixth MLA from the ruling BJP to get infected by the coronavirus in the state. Laskar's driver has also tested positive for the infection, officials said.
◕ Tamil Nadu reported 6,972 new COVID-19 cases and 88 deaths on Tuesday. The total number of cases stand at 2,27,688 including 57,073 active cases, 1,66,956 discharges and 3,659 deaths, the Tamil Nadu state health department said.
◕ "Locals and metros have to start....Centre has to help the states. Railways should step in and bring back migrant labourers," NCP chief Sharad Pawar told News18.

◕ Can't Say Crisis is Over Till Daily Positive Cases Fall Below 500: Satyendar Jain | Delhi's health minister Satyendar Jain said today that in terms of active cases, the national capital has reached the tenth position from the second position. "Till the number of daily positive cases falls below 500, we cannot say that this crisis is over," he said. On the issue of herd immunity, Jain said, "We need to have a population with 40% to 60% having antibodies to reach herd immunity...As of now, Delhi stands at 23%. We will be conducting another test to find out where we stand."
◕ Mumbai reported 700 new positive cases, the lowest figure in the last 100 days and the doubling rate is 68 days now. Additionally, 8,776 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, the highest so far, the BMC Commissioner said today.

◕ US Adds 57,000 Covid-19 Cases in 24 Hours: Johns Hopkins | The United States on Monday reported 57,039 fresh coronavirus cases in 24 hours, Johns Hopkins University reported in its real-time tally. The US is the worst-hit country in terms of both death toll and total caseload, which stood at 4,286,663 as of 8:30 pm on Tuesday, according to the Baltimore-based university.
After a fall in infection rate in the late spring, the US has seen a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, especially in southern and western states such as California, Texas, Alabama and Florida. Until Sunday, the number of daily infections had exceeded 60,000 for 12 straight days, with some days notching more than 70,000 new cases, news agency AFP reported.
◕ Moderna, Pfizer Start COVID-19 Vaccine Trials| The trials, both launched on Monday, are the first late-stage studies backed by the Trump administration's effort to fast-track the creation of measures against Covid-19, spurring hope that an effective vaccine will help end the pandemic. ◕ Germany's Confirmed Covid-19 Cases Rise by 633 to 206,242 | The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany went up by 633 to 206,242, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases revealed on Tuesday. The reported death toll increased by 4 to 9,122, the tally showed.
