MLA Pargat SinghJALNDHAR: Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh has written a letter to Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh urging him to make all efforts to reopen blasphemy case of 2007 against Sirsa dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in which he was discharged by the sessions court at Bathinda in 2014 due to the cancellation report filed by Punjab Police just before the 2012 assembly polls.
“When it is clear that roots of incidents of sacrileges in 2015 were in criminal negligence of the Punjab government in blasphemy case of 2007, then it is imperative that your government makes all efforts to reopen it,” he wrote in the letter.
Stating that a petition filed by advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur challenging Dera chief’s discharge is pending in Punjab and Haryana high court, Pargat asked the CM to get all the details of the case through advocate general and issue instructions to take all steps to get the case reopened so that not only Dera chief can be punished but also the entire conspiracy is brought out.
“This case is actually an example that if a government and a political party hobnobs with an accused in a highly sensitive and important case then how much disastrous can be the results,” Pargat said in the letter.
“The Badal government, top police brass and security experts had said that these acts were a conspiracy to push Punjab towards fire. Apparently, they (Dera) could hatch such a vicious conspiracy due to the reason that in place of getting him punished, government did not even prosecute him. It epitomised governmental and political dishonesty that on one side Punjab Police IG had given in the high court that they had evidence to prosecute Dera chief and Punjab government had also given permission for prosecution but on the other he was not even charge-sheeted,” the letter reads.
It was due to the long rope given to the Dera chief, rather better to call it a surrender before him for deal of votes, that it led to criminality in him and his followers to such a lever that in October 2015 they executed the sacrileges without any fear.
“They (Dera) were confident that government of the day would not touch them. This confidence was also not misplaced as during its remaining tenure none looked towards Dera chief or his followers rather bullets were fired on justice seeking Sikhs and they were also subjected to severe torture in the name of finding culprits of sacrilege,” he has mentioned in the letter.
“This case should be an example for our government that what can be the political and social cost of such a blunder in such a case. Five time chief minister is now desperate to save his political ground,” the letter reads while urging the CM to ensure that already in office for three and half years his government should ensure justice in sacrilege and Behbal Kalan, Kotkapura firing cases as promised by Congress.
