LUCKNOW: Doctors on duty in the Covid ward of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) have complained to the university authorities of being provided shoddy accommodation and "poor quality of food with larvae/insects."
The university’s Resident Doctors’ Welfare Association (RDWA), making a written complaint to the vice chancellor (VC) on Tuesday, alleged that authorities had an "apathetic attitude" towards corona warriors. KGMU administration however stood by the quality of food being provided as well as the accommodation, but said issue will be inquired if complaint reaches.
A copy of the letter along with photographs of the "worm" ridden food was uploaded and shared widely on social media with criticism of authorities.
"The letter has been sent out to the VC. For the past few days, some of the resident doctors on Covid duty had posted about such an apathy towards them on our social media group," confirmed general secretary of RDWA Dr Saurabh Srivastav.

"It is so inhuman to treat our frontline healthcare warriors with such grim facilities when governments world over are doing so much for their well being," the letter read.
"KGMU is providing high quality food to all doctors and employees on Covid duty. Accomdation is also being given in hostels and guest houses. But if such a complaint is received, it will be probed strictly and lapses if any will not be accepted,” said KGMU spokesperson Dr Sudhir Singh.
TOI also spoke to a member of the covid team currently posted in the university’s covid ward and she confirmed that even after several verbal complaints, authorities have hardly taken note of their problems.
"We have been on duty since July 22 but were initially not even given proper accommodation in the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) building housing the Covid ward. We were asked to go over a kilometer and more away to the Limb Centre building even if we were to get off duty in the night after wearing the PPE for several hours in this humid weather," she claimed.
"After much request, authorities gave us rooms on a shared basis in the IDH building, which have improper ventilation and infrastructure," she alleged.
The team of resident doctors on covid duty had also complained in writing to the covid ward incharge and pro-VC on Monday about the issue but had not got any positive response, they complained.
