Yet another record: state sees spike of 258 COVID cases

Panaji: The state on Monday witnessed the biggest-ever single-day jump in coronavirus cases, as 258 fresh cases of the dreaded virus detected. The biggest spike took the total tally of the confirmed cases to above 5000-mark.

The previous single-day spike was reported on July 15 when Goa saw 198 COVID positive cases.

A 58-year-old man from New Vaddem, Vasco, succumbed to the virus on Sunday, becoming the 36th victim of COVID.

A 96-year-old woman also died of the deadly virus on Sunday.

Around 133 COVID patients have recovered from the disease on Monday.

With these recoveries and new cases, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Goa currently stand at 5119 of which 1673 are active, while 3410 people have defeated the deadly disease. The state has seen 37 COVID fatalities.

According to the directorate of health services, the 1,673 active cases include 103 persons, who travelled to Goa from outside by road, rail and air.

A majority of the active COVID cases in Goa fall under the jurisdiction of primary health centre of Cortalim with 369 cases, urban health centre of Vasco has 363 cases, UHC Margao has 116 cases and the PHC Chimbel has recorded 79 cases within its jurisdiction.

The CHCs from where the cases are emerging are: Bicholim (8), Sankhali (73), Pernem (6), Valpoi (10), Curchorem (11) and Canacona (5). The other UHCs include Mapusa (37) and Panaji (53).

The COVID cases are also surfacing from the jurisdiction of PHCs that include Aldona (10), Betki (8), Candolim (39), Cansarvanem (19), Colvale (44), Corlim (20), Chimbel (79), Siolim (15), Porvorim (19), Mayem (2),  Balli (39), Cansaulim (12), Chinchinim (3), Curtorim (22), Loutolim (29), Marcaim (6), Quepem (8), Sanguem (4), Shiroda (8), Dharbandora (32), Ponda (78), and Navelim (23).
