CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Sunday took a decision to provide plasma to private hospitals for the treatment of Covid-19 patients from the government plasma bank at a cost price of Rs 20,000 per unit.
The decision came on a day 15 people died of coronavirus infection — the state’s highest casualty count for a day so far — and the death toll climbed to 306.
As per the Punjab department of medical education and research, since the day the plasma bank was set up by the state government, there was a demand for plasma from private hospitals treating coronavirus patients. The plasma would be made available free of cost to patients undergoing treatment in Punjab government hospitals.
The government has issued the notification in this regard. The first plasma bank of Punjab was inaugurated online on July 21 by medical education and research minister Om Prakash Soni.
