Shoppers have been left stunned after discovering Aldi is selling prawns for human consumption which are banned as bait.
A shocked customer snapped a picture of label selling the packet of Ocean Royale Raw Peeled Prawns for $14.99, with the price tag reading: 'Not to be used as bait'.
One confused customer wrote in a Reddit post: 'Aldi prawns. Not to be used as bait. Huh?'

'I wonder how something like this can be even remotely enforced,' another questioned.
'My guess is that since they're crumbed the department of fisheries doesn't want local fish getting a taste for crumbed bait or they'll never go back to regular bait,' wrote another.
Ocean Royale Raw Peeled Prawns are imported from Malaysia.
Imported prawns are banned from being used as bait under the Australian government's environmental regulations, given such seafood could introduce diseases into the waterways.
Do not use prawns or other seafood from a supermarket or fishmonger as bait, these are often marked for human consumption only – this can introduce disease to your favourite fishing spot, the department of agriculture's website states.
In May, Woolworths was slammed for selling Thawed Green Prawn Cutlets which were imported from China.

'Woolies selling Chinese imported prawns, which are not fit to be used as bait but apparently ''ok'' for Australians to eat,' a social media post read.
A spokesman for the supermarket giant responded, telling 7news: 'Around three quarters of our Prawn range behind our seafood counter is either wild caught or farmed locally in Australia and we're always looking to source more.
'The importation of prawns are - quite rightly - subject to strict conditions and screening by the Department of Agriculture and we comply with these at all times.'
