BOSTON --- Some old friends with the Mets are having a difficult time of it early in the season.

Rick Porcello was shelled by Atlanta in Sunday night’s 14-1 loss at Citi Field. The right-hander recorded just six outs while allowing seven hits, three walks and six earned runs. Porcello signed a one-year deal with New York in free agency after spending the previous five seasons with the Red Sox.

Eduardo Nunez left the game with an undisclosed injury in the bottom of the eighth inning. The infielder was legging out an infield single when he stepped awkwardly and fell beyond the first base bag. Nunez was acquired by Boston from the Giants at the 2017 trade deadline and played in 225 games with the Red Sox over the next three seasons.

Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes started on the bench after appearing in each of the first three games for the Mets. Cespedes missed all of 2019 after suffering multiple ankle fractures in an off-field accident at his Florida ranch and undergoing surgery. He spent 51 games with Boston in 2014 after his trade from the Athletics for Jon Lester and Jonny Gomes. Cespedes was on the move again to Detroit that offseason, headlining a three-man package for Porcello.

Jed Lowrie has yet to appear in a game for New York this season due to a left knee injury. The infielder debuted with the Red Sox in 2008 and has managed to crack the 100-game mark only four times in his 12 seasons. Lowrie played in just nine games with the Mets in 2019 after signing a two-year, $20-million deal in free agency.
