No hostel facility in Chandigarh colleges till September 30

CHANDIGARH: There will be no hostel facility for freshers in city colleges for the next academic session 2020-21. The admission prospectus, however, mentions that hostels will not be allocated before September 30, 2020, and thereafter, the situation will be reviewed. Prospectus of all city-based government and private colleges mentions that the government has not allowed opening of hostels for students till September 30 due to the coronavirus pandemic, therefore no allocation will be made till further orders.
An official of the education department said considering Covid-19, there were chances that this year there would be less numbers of applications for hostels as compared to last year which was between 35,000 and 40,000. Hostels of all the government and private colleges’ would be opened only after the government’s nod to it.

Dr Sutapa Saryal, dean admission, DAV College, Sector 10, said, “The college has given a special offer to students this time. Students can pay Rs 10,000 and book their room in the hostel. As and when the college will be opened for physical classes, students can shift to hostels immediately.”
She said students are also facing the problem of non-availability of paying guest services due to the pandemic, considering which the special offer has been given to students which they can avail after situation turns normal and the same has been mentioned in the college prospectus, which was released on Sunday.
Spokesperson of MCM DAV college said the admission process will be 100 per cent paperless and for hostel, freshers were informed that a decision will be taken after September 30 that whether the hostel facility will be available to them or not.
