Representative imageMOHALI: The onus of petrol pump owner G S Chawla’s suicide lies with the Punjab government, oil marketing companies and the Centre, Petrol Pump Dealers Association Punjab has said. The association said the authorities failed to address the issues of price difference between Punjab and neighbouring states and huge revenue losses due to drop in sales during the pandemic.
Petrol Pump Dealers Association Punjab (PPDAP) president Paramjit Singh Doaba said, “We have planned to close down pumps in Punjab on Wednesday in protest against the Punjab government and as a tribute to Chawla, who succumbed to the undue pressure of oil companies and wrong government policies.”
Doaba said it was just a beginning of the dark chapter of suicides by petro dealers and more would follow if the Punjab government, theoilcompanies and MoPNG did not listen to the demands of the fraternity, said PPDAP general secretary Manjit Singh.
