NEW DELHI: Tributes poured in for former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on his death anniversary today as the nation fondly remembered the Missile Man of India who had left indelible marks not only on the field of science & tech but also on Indian polity.
"Tributes to Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, an epitome of intellect, wisdom and simplicity. A People's President, who left a lasting impact on several fields ranging from science to politics," Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted.
Dr Kalam, the "People's President", left indelible marks on a number of spheres ranging from science to politics, said the Home minister. Kalam's quest for knowledge still inspires Indians, he added.
Shah also said that Kalam's work captured the idea of a self-reliant India.
JP Nadda, the national president of BJP, tweeted, "My heartfelt tribute to former President of India Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam ji on his death anniversary. He was a people's President whose ideal life will keep on inspiring the people of the country."
Nadda said Kalam was a people's President whose work continues to inspire people.
Dr Kalam served as the 11th President of the country. Before that, in his aerospace scientist avatar, Kalam had worked for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) — India's premier space research bodies.
Kalam's role in the development of the Indian ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology was one of highlights of his storied career. During his days as a scientist, he played a major part in the Pokhran-II nuclear tests.
He was a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.
