Coimbatore man arrested for murdering grandmother

COIMBATORE: A 23-year-old construction worker was arrested on Monday for murdering his grandmother at Avarampalayam in Coimbatore on Sunday.
The incident took place when the grandmother intervened to solve a scuffle between the accused, Karthi, 23, a and his brother-in-law, M Dharmaraj, 35.
Last year, Karthi was arrested by the Coimbatore city all-women police for sexually assaulting a minor girl with his friends. However, he came out on conditional bail with the help of Dharmaraj.
Police said Karthi, Dharmaraj, their friend Anish were consuming alcohol at his home on Sunday evening. In an inebriated state, Dharmaraj spoke about Karthi's arrest under the POCSO Act and also hurled abuses at his family members.
In a fit of rage, Karthi used a glass photo frame and attempted to stab Dharmaraj, which accidentally injured his grandmother M Kanniyammal, 70.
She was rushed to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared that she was brought dead.
