JORHAT: The
district administration in Jorhat has allowed Covid-19 patients to opt for home isolation instead of staying in hospitals, said deputy commissioner
Roshni Aparanji Korati.
"If they want, Covid patients can stay at home. However, it is mandatory to have a separate room and separate bathroom for these patients at their respective homes in order to check transmission of the virus to other family members," Korati said.
She added, "The number of Covid-19 patients has been increasing in Jorhat rapidly. District administration and health department is trying their best to stop the virus from spreading."
In Jorhat, about 1,400 people have been tested positive till Sunday evening. More than 800 patients are under treatment at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH),
Air Force hospital, Na-Bora Chuk Model Hospital and Bhogamukh Hospital. A deputy superintendent at JMCH said, "In view of rising number of cases, we have made an arrangement of 200 beds at JMCH."
The district administration is also constructing a temporary Covid hospital at Jorhat Sports Association Playground.
Meanwhile, the administration has introduced
Rapid antigen tests in the district. "We can obtain reports of samples within half an hour and we have started this testing process in all parts of Jorhat," Korati said.
The district administration also held a Covid review meeting here on Saturday. Organizations which attended the meeting include All
Assam Students Union, Asom Yuva Satra Parishad, Bir Lachit Sena, All Assam tea Tribes Students Association, All Adivasi Students association of Assam, All Assam Minority Students Association, Chambers of Commerce, Upper Assam Chambers of Commerce, Jorhat Bar Association, Jorhat Gar-Ali Association, Senior Citizen Forum, Jorhat Press Club. Government officials of health department and police as well as Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa were also present.
