First death from Corona in Sikkim, lockdown extended till August 1

The first death from COVID-19 was confirmed in the northeastern state of Sikkim on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Sikkim government has extended the lockdown till August 1, given Corona's rising graph. A senior health official said that a 74-year-old elder of Rongli village in East Sikkim district died of Kovid-19 at STNM Hospital. This is the first death due to the Corona epidemic in Sikkim.

Dr. Pema T. Bhutia, Director General cum Secretary, State Health and Family Welfare Department, informed that the elderly died due to Kovid-19. The patient was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night and his corona report came back positive. He said that the patient was taken to the ICU, where he died on Sunday morning. The official said that he was suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. So far, 499 people have confirmed the virus in Sikkim.
