Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas donate to Assam flood relief organisations
The couple have been sharing links to organisations that have been working on the ground to help disaster victims in Assam. Here's how you can contribute too
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have made donations towards the Assam flood relief measures and have urged their fans to do the same. “While we are all still dealing with the effects of the global pandemic, the Indian state of Assam has been grappling with another major crisis. It has been devastated by floods triggered by heavy monsoon showers affecting the lives of millions,” the couple shared in a statement, which was shared on Chopra's Twitter handle. The floods have caused loss of lives, crops and land, all of which have left the state reeling.
“The impact to life and land/property is unimaginable. The rapidly rising water level has also flooded the Kaziranga National Park, one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in the world,” the Bollywood actor shared. “They need our attention and support. I’m sharing details of a few credible organizations that are doing some good work on the ground in Assam, and Nick and I have made a donation to each. Let us support them so they can continue to help those in need," she wrote. Priyanka Chopra has also been the ambassador for Assam from 2016 to 2019, and has been part of the Awesome Assam campaign to improve tourism prospects for the state.
Of late, Priyanka Chopra has also been using her social media platforms for shout outs to small business owners and inspirational people to motivate her fans. She has been uploading photos of news bytes and brands to follow, as well as link shares to important causes and stories. “I’ve been coping by making donations to where people need help, and using my platform to promote the people who are actually on the ground, doing the work,” she shared with Vogue.
For Jonas and Chopra, philanthropy and social justice causes have been a top priority, particularly over the last few months. The couple donated to a number of organisations in the US and India to help the fight against COVID-19, and recently pledged their support to the Black Lives Matter protest too.
