England openers Rory Burns and Dom Sibley safely negotiated the four overs before lunch. The session belonged to the hosts. England tightened their grip on the match and the series courtesy Stuart Broad display with both bat and the ball. Broad smashed a counter-attacking 62 in a return to form with the bat, then played a lead role as part of England's destructive pace quartet with a six-wicket haul. The West Indies' bid to capture a Test series in England for the first time since 1988 looked totally in tatters.

Stuart Broad dished out stunning bowling performance , returning figures of 6/31 to help England bowl out West Indies for 197 and take a huge 172-run first-innings lead. Holder and Dowrich started off well for the West Indies and managed to avoid the follow-on this morning. But Broad triggered a collapse as West Indies lost their last four wickets in just 19 runs.
