Woman riding pillion dies as truck hits bike, rider critical

Anjali Goswami
Ghaziabad: A 22-year-old woman returning home with a neighbour died after a speeding truck rammed their bike from behind near Ram Kisan Girls College on Friday night. While Anjali Goswami, a resident of Sihani Gate village, died on the spot, her neighbour Subhash sustained critical injuries in the accident, police said.
According to cops, the truck driver lost control of the speeding vehicle, leading to the accident. Though both the victims were rushed to a local hospital within minutes, doctors declared Anjali brought dead. Subhash is battling for his life at the hospital.
Anjali’s father Jai Prakash said he had gone to a hospital, along with his son and daughter, for a routine check-up. “On our way back home, we spotted Subhash who was returning home from Delhi. I had asked Subhash to drop my daughter home as she was feeling tired. But after some time, I got to know about the fatal accident. We are praying for Subhash’s recovery,” he said.
Police said an FIR has been lodged under sections 279 (rash driving), 304A (causing death by negligence) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of IPC against the unidentified truck driver at the Sihani Gate police station. “We have seized the truck and efforts are on to nab the driver, who fled the accident spot leaving the vehicle behind,” Krishna Gopal Sharma, the SHO, said.
