Gujarat: Lightning kills elderly woman in Chhota Udepur

VADODARA: A 65-year-old woman died after being struck by lightning in Chhota Udepur district on Sunday.
Kakudi Rathwa, a resident of Kumbhani village, was working on her farm on Saturday afternoon. Rathwa continued her work even as the sky was cloudy and there was thundering. Sources said after the lightning struck her, she collapsed on the farm. People in the neighbouring farms rushed to her help as they saw her lying unconscious.
The elderly woman was taken to the community health centre at Zoz village where she succumbed during treatment on Sunday morning. A case of accidental death was registered by local police.
Chhota Udepur taluka received a total rainfall of 8cm between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday. Naswadi taluka too was lashed by the same amount of rainfall during the same period. Other regions of the district largely remained dry.
