THANE: A 44-year-old Dominican congregation priest from Thane's Catholic community, who had been undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in a hospital since the past fortnight, passed away on Saturday afternoon.
He was admitted with acute respiratory distress syndrome with Covid pneumonia and was put on a ventilator for the last few days.
The hospital said that his condition was critical, and despite being on optimal medical management and use of prevalent experimental treatment protocols, he succumbed to the infection.
The priest was from Orissa and was stationed at Thane since the last few years. He recently lost a close relative following which his own health got affected. A close associate said he was unwell but relied on home remedies and later on was admitted to a private hospital where he tested positive and was being treated.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the Archbishop's House in Colaba is hospitalised with Covid-19. "The
fever has gone and thankfully there is no breathing distress," he said.
