Two militants were on Saturday killed in an ongoing operation of security forces near Srinagar.
“Two unidentified militants have been killed so far in the ongoing encounter. The identities of the slain militants are being ascertained,” the police said.
A gunfight erupted in Ranbirgarh Panzinara on the outskirts of Srinagar in the morning when the security forces launched a search operation following a tip-off.
“The hiding militants opened fire, triggering an encounter,” the police said.
An Army jawan also sustained injuries in the gunfight and was taken to the Army’s base hospital.
“The operation is on,” a police officer said.
It is the third major encounter in Srinagar this year.
Over 135 militants have been killed in Kashmir so far this year.
